BRUSSELS – United States Trade Representative Katherine Tai and Deputy United States Trade Representative Jayme White today met with Sophie Wilmès, the Belgian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs. They discussed a wide range of bilateral and multilateral trade issues, including shared global challenges posed by non-market economies and the importance of a successful World Trade Organization 12th Ministerial Conference. Ambassador Tai thanked Deputy Prime Minister Wilmès for Belgium’s support of the U.S.-EU Trade and Technology Council (TTC) and they acknowledged the successful inaugural meeting in Pittsburgh last month, which will pave the way for stronger transatlantic ties.
Ambassador Tai and Deputy Prime Minister Wilmès also discussed the importance of the U.S.-Belgian trade relationship and agreed to work together to tackle global issues, including, climate change, worker’s rights, and the challenges posed by non-market economies.
