WASHINGTON – United States Trade Representative Katherine Tai and Deputy United States Trade Representative Jayme White today met with Bahrain Minister of Industry, Commerce and Tourism Zayed Al-Zayani.
Ambassador Tai outlined her vision for a worker-center trade policy and her wish to work with Bahrain to address labor-related issues in the Bahrain economy through completing the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) Labor Chapter Consultations. They also discussed Bahrain joining the International Convention for the Protection of New Varieties of Plants, the tax on beverages imposed by Bahrain and the other members of the GCC, and steel and aluminum excess capacity.
Ambassador Tai highlighted her focus on WTO reform and the important role Bahrain can play with respect to special and differential treatment. Ambassador Tai vowed to keep in close communications with Minister Al-Zayani in the coming days.
