Readout of Ambassador Katherine Tai's Meeting with Brunei Minister of Finance and Economy Amin Liew

BANGKOK -- United States Trade Representative Katherine Tai today met with Brunei Minister of Finance and Economy Amin Liew ahead of the 2022 Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Ministers Responsible for Trade meeting. Ambassador Tai and Minister Liew discussed the long history of positive bilateral cooperation in multilateral forums like APEC and the importance of continuing that close cooperation in the future.
 
Ambassador Tai provided an overview of the Biden-Harris Administration’s effort to develop an Indo-Pacific Economic Framework for Prosperity that deepens our economic engagement with partners in the region and creates a platform to tackle 21st century global challenges. She also highlighted the Administration’s worker-centered approach to trade policy and underscored her desire to work collaboratively to address unfair trade practices and strengthen worker rights in the region and in Brunei.
 
Ambassador Tai and Minister Liew agreed to continue discussing ways to further strengthen the trade and economic relationship between the United States and Brunei in the days ahead.
