WASHINGTON – United States Trade Representative Katherine Tai today released the following statement in recognition of Hispanic Heritage Month:
Our Nation has always been a community of communities, and Latinos have been a beacon of hope and progress throughout our history. This month, we honor their stories and contributions to our shared success.
Latinos helped shape—and are shaping—this country. They are our entrepreneurs bringing life to critical innovations and driving our economy forward. They are our artists and musicians adding spirit and flare to our culture. They are our scientists and engineers pushing the boundaries of human capability.
They are also our advocates—fighting for a fairer and more just America. That is because they believe in the great promise of our Union, that it can and should be perfected over time. We have not always delivered on that promise, and the Latino community has experienced persistent inequality and unjust treatment.
I am proud to be a part of an Administration that recognizes this and is doing something about it. Whether it is tackling unemployment, expanding access to health care and disability benefits, investing in infrastructure, or closing the digital divide, this Administration has been laser-focused on delivering real and lasting change for our Latino community.
At USTR, we are doing our part to use trade as a force for good, to ensure that all our people reap the benefits of economic growth. I have made it a priority to meet with Latino community leaders and workers throughout the United States, so that their voices and priorities help shape our work back in Washington and abroad.
We are stronger because of our diversity, not in spite of it. That is the genius of the United States, and our Latino community will continue to be a foundational force in writing our next chapter. This Hispanic Heritage Month, we reaffirm our commitment to deliver inclusive prosperity and economic opportunity for our Latino community and for all Americans.
