Ambassador Sarah Bianchi to Travel to Tokyo, Japan

September 14, 2023

WASHINGTON – Deputy United States Trade Representative Sarah Bianchi will travel to Tokyo, Japan from September 18-21, 2023.

Throughout her trip, Ambassador Bianchi will meet with senior Government of Japan officials, including Vice Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry, Hosaka Shin, and Senior Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs, Ono Keiichi. She will also meet with the United States’ Ambassador to Japan, Rahm Emanuel.

During these meetings, Ambassador Bianchi will discuss the Indo-Pacific Economic Framework and ongoing areas of close collaboration between the two countries.

Through the Biden-Harris Administration, the United States and Japan have made significant strides to deepen their bilateral trade relationship, including through the U.S.-Japan Partnership on Trade. In January 2023, an agreement went into effect that will increase U.S. beef exports to Japan. The United States and Japan also signed a Memorandum of Cooperation to launch the Task Force on the Promotion of Human Rights and International Labor Standards in Supply Chains. The elimination of forced labor in supply chains represents a foundational pillar of the Biden-Harris Administration’s worker-centered approach to trade policy.
