MEXICO CITY – United States Deputy Trade Representative Jayme White yesterday met with Canada’s Deputy Minister for International Trade Rob Stewart ahead of the second USMCA SME Dialogue.

Ambassador White and Deputy Minister Stewart underscored the close relationship between the two countries and the shared goal of strengthening North American competitiveness.  They discussed ongoing cooperation in multilateral fora, as well as the ongoing dispute under the USMCA on certain Mexican measures concerning biotech corn.

Ambassador White expressed continued U.S. concern with Canada’s proposed unilateral digital service tax, and encouraged Canada to redouble its commitment to the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development Two-Pillar process. In addition, Ambassador White welcomed the Government of Canada’s recent direction to the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) regarding U.S. home shopping television programming services. The United States is monitoring the CRTC’s implementation closely.
