Readout of Ambassador Katherine Tai's Meeting with Germany’s State Secretary for International and EU Affairs and G7/G20 Sherpa Jörg Kukies

United States Trade Representative Katherine Tai and Deputy United States Trade Representative Jayme White welcomed Germany’s State Secretary for International and EU Affairs and G7/G20 Sherpa, Jörg Kukies. This visit represents his first visit to the United States as German State Secretary. 

Ambassador Tai and State Secretary Kukies followed up on their meeting on February 23, 2022, in Berlin and reaffirmed the close working relationship between the United States and Germany.  They also discussed the importance of close U.S.-EU cooperation in light of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and non-market economy practices around the world.

Ambassador Tai noted the importance of close U.S.-German and U.S.-EU cooperation in the U.S.-EU Trade and Technology Council and through ongoing work at the World Trade Organization and the G7.  Ambassador Tai and State Secretary Kukies also discussed their mutual interest in policies that incentivize sustainability and protect the environment for future generations.

Ambassador Tai and State Secretary Kukies agreed to stay in close touch on key issues, including on a broad range of global trade issues.
