WASHINGTON – United States Trade Representative Katherine Tai today met with Indonesia Minister of Trade Muhammad Lutfi. Ambassador Tai and Minister Lutfi discussed the importance of the trade and investment relationship between the United States and Indonesia. Ambassador Tai emphasized the Biden-Harris Administration’s commitment to a worker-centric trade policy and restoring American engagement and leadership internationally, including in Southeast Asia and the broader Indo-Pacific region.
Both Ambassador Tai and Minister Lutfi agreed to work together on shared areas of interest, including WTO negotiations on fisheries subsidies, pandemic recovery, and financial services. They also committed to revitalize engagement through the U.S.-Indonesia Trade and Investment Framework Agreement, which they agreed to hold later this year.
