Readout of Ambassador Katherine Tai’s Meeting with United Kingdom Secretary of State for International Trade Elizabeth Truss

July 13, 2021

WASHINGTON – United States Trade Representative Katherine Tai today met with United Kingdom Secretary of State for International Trade Elizabeth Truss. The two previously met during Ambassador Tai’s trip to London in June.

Ambassador Tai and Secretary Truss began by celebrating the Large Civil Aircraft framework reached between the United States and United Kingdom that strengthens the cooperative relationship between the two countries in the aerospace sector. They acknowledged that the deal creates a platform for future collaboration on shared challenges, including those posed by the anti-competitive practices of China and other non-market economies.

Both leaders stressed the importance of fair competition in the global economy and agreed to work together both bilaterally and through multilateral fora to promote fair competition, enhance the international trade system, and address forced labor issues. Ambassador Tai and Secretary Truss committed to continue strengthening the trade and economic partnership between the United States and United Kingdom.
