WASHINGTON – United States Trade Representative Katherine Tai today met with Spain’s Minister of Industry, Trade and Tourism, Maria Reyes Maroto.
During the meeting, Ambassador Tai reiterated the United States’ support for the large civil aircraft framework that was reached with the European Union in June. Ambassador Tai also expressed her view that negotiations in multilateral fora like the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) and G20 represented the best opportunity to resolve issues around Digital Services Taxes (DSTs). Ambassador Tai stated that the United States views the coordinated removal of individual DSTs as a key part of the OECD framework.
Ambassador Tai and Minister Moroto discussed a number of WTO issues, including the ongoing fisheries subsidies negotiations at the World Trade Organization (WTO). The ambassador noted that the United States hopes to achieve a meaningful outcome and expressed her hope that Spain would support the Administration’s WTO fisheries forced labor proposal.
Both leaders agreed to continue collaborating on important trade and economic issues that will further strengthen the bilateral relationship between the United States and Spain.
