On January 12, 2018, Australia requested consultations with Canada concerning measures maintained by the Canadian Government and the Canadian provinces of British Columbia, Ontario, Quebec, and Nova Scotia governing the sale of wine. Australia’s request for consultations followed earlier requests for consultations submitted by the United States (DS520 and DS531) pertaining to measures maintained by the Canadian province of British Columbia governing the sale of wine in grocery stores.

Montevideo, UruguayToday, the United States and Uruguay held the seventh meeting of the bilateral Trade and Investment Council under the 2007 Trade and Investment Framework Agreement. Assistant U.S. Trade Representative John Melle travelled to Montevideo to lead the U.S. delegation, and Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs José Luis Cancela Gomez led the Uruguayan delegation.

On October 15, 2014, Canada requested consultations with China with respect to China's measures imposing antidumping duties on imports of cellulose pulp from Canada, as set forth in the Ministry of Commerce of China Notice No. 75 of 2013 (November 6, 2013), including its annex (the Preliminary Determination), and Notice No. 18 of 2014 (April 4, 2014), including its annex (the Final Determination).

Canada claims that the measures are inconsistent with:

•Articles 1, 3.1, 3.2, 3.4, 3.5; and

•Article VI of the GATT 1994.

Montevideo, Uruguay – On October 19, the fourth meeting of the Trade and Investment Council (TIC) was held in Montevideo. The TIC was established by the United States-Uruguay Trade and Investment Framework Agreement (TIFA). The U.S. delegation was headed by Assistant United States Trade Representative (AUSTR) for the Americas Everett Eissenstat. Uruguayan Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr. Luis Almagro led the Uruguayan delegation.

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The third meeting of the Trade and Investment Council (TIC), established by the United States - Uruguay Trade and Investment Framework Agreement (TIFA), was held today in Washington. The U.S. delegation was headed by Assistant United States Trade Representative (AUSTR) for the Americas Everett Eissenstat. Uruguayan Minister of Foreign Affairs Gonzalo Fernández led the Uruguayan delegation.

Complaints by the United States (WT/DS291), Canada (WT/DS292) and Argentina (WT/DS293).

On 13 May 2003, the United States and Canada requested consultations with the EC concerning certain measures taken by the EC and its member States affecting imports of agricultural and food imports from the United States and Canada. Regarding EC-level measures, the US and Canada asserted that the moratorium applied by the EC since October 1998 on the approval of biotech products has restricted imports of agricultural and food products from the US and Canada.

September 14, 2006

WASHINGTON – On Tuesday, September 12, 2006, the United States Senate approved a resolution of advice and consent for the United States-Uruguay Bilateral Investment Treaty (BIT). The countries signed the treaty at the Summit of the Americas, in Mar del Plata, Argentina, on November 4, 2005. The Government of Uruguay completed its domestic ratification procedures in December 2005. The treaty will enter into force thirty days after the exchange of instruments of ratification.
