Readout of Ambassador Katherine Tai’s Meeting with Norway’s Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide

WASHINGTON – United States Trade Representative Katherine Tai met today with Norway’s Foreign Minister, Espen Barth Eide.

During the meeting they discussed priorities for a successful Thirteenth Ministerial Conference (MC13) of the World Trade Organization (WTO) including the importance of reform, and the need to improve the organization's functions, including the dispute settlement system.  Ambassador Tai expressed the United States’ commitment to reforming the WTO and creating a more durable multilateral trading system that benefits all members.

The Ministers agreed to continue to work closely together prior to and after MC13 to achieve meaningful outcomes.

In addition, Ambassador Tai and Minister Eide discussed the nexus between climate and trade and Norway’s role in the critical mineral supply chain. Ambassador Tai emphasized the need to ensure sustainable and high-standard, critical mineral supply chains.
