Statement by Ambassador Katherine Tai Celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month

September 15, 2022

WASHINGTON – United States Trade Representative Katherine Tai today released the following statement celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month.

“The Hispanic community has driven America’s economic prosperity for generations and this month we pay tribute to the entrepreneurs, scientists, artists, farmers, and academics that have left their indelible mark on our country. Legendary figures like Cesar Chavez, Dolores Huerta, Ellen Ochoa, Lin-Manuel Miranda, and so many others in this community of communities have created a more vibrant, dynamic and just United States of America.

“I am honored to serve alongside historic figures like the Secretary of Health and Human Services Secretary, Xavier Becerra, the Secretary of Homeland Security, Alejandro Mayorkas, the Secretary of Education, Miguel Cardona, the Small Business Administrator, Isabel Guzman, our Deputy United States Trade Representative, Maria Pagán, and countless other dedicated public servants who work every day to make this country stronger.

“At USTR, we are working to create inclusive economic prosperity by driving a race to the top that advances high labor and environmental standards. We have successfully leveraged our trade tools and trade agreements to boost wages, protect workers rights and open markets to American businesses. This Hispanic Heritage Month, we must rededicate ourselves to enhancing our engagement with the Hispanic community and ensuring that our worker-centered trade policies create greater opportunity for the next generation.”
