September 14, 2022

NEUHARDENBERG – United States Trade Representative Katherine Tai today met with European Commission Executive Vice President Valdis Dombrovskis on the margins of the 2022 meeting of the G7 trade ministers.  This meeting comes after Ambassador Tai and Executive Vice President Dombrovskis spoke by phone on September 1, 2022.

In Germany, Ambassador Tai and Executive Vice President Dombrovskis noted the close collaboration between the United States and European Union on a range of shared priorities, including the ongoing negotiations on the steel and aluminum global arrangement and continued cooperation in the Trade and Technology Council.  They expressed appreciation for Germany’s presidency of the G7, where members have continued to lay a strong foundation for impactful work in the trade working group.  They also discussed building on the progress achieved at the World Trade Organization’s 12th Ministerial Conference in June.  Both ministers agreed to continue discussions on the electric vehicle tax credits in the Inflation Reduction Act.

Ambassador Tai and Executive Vice President Dombrovskis pledged to stay in touch on these issues in the weeks ahead, including during the G20 Trade and Investment Working Group in Bali, Indonesia later this month.
