WASHINGTON – United States Trade Representative Katherine Tai today met virtually with United Kingdom Secretary of State for International Trade Kemi Badenoch to congratulate her on her appointment to her new position. Ambassador Tai expressed her condolences to the United Kingdom on the recent passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. She also conveyed her desire to establish a strong working relationship with Secretary of State Badenoch.
Ambassador Tai spoke about the significant work the United States and the United Kingdom have undertaken to strengthen the bilateral trade relationship, including the Dialogues on the Future of Atlantic Trade held earlier this year. Ambassador Tai expressed her commitment to working with Secretary of State Badenoch to deepen the relationship. She also highlighted the opportunity to continue working together across multiple platforms to address the shared challenges posed by the People’s Republic of China’s non-market economic policies and practices and economic coercion. Lastly, Ambassador Tai conveyed U.S. support for the Belfast/Good Friday Agreement and for the United Kingdom and European Union to resolve differences on the Northern Ireland Protocol. Ambassador Tai also said she looked forward to meeting Secretary of State Badenoch in person soon.
