WASHINGTON – United States Trade Representative Katherine Tai today released the following statement to mark the 20th anniversary of the September 11 attacks:
“Twenty years ago, we lost nearly 3,000 lives on a day none of us will ever forget.”
“Yet even on one of our most solemn days, we saw America’s true character on display in the aftermath of this tragedy. Firefighters, police officers, and first responders risked their lives and health to save as many as they could. Doctors and nurses worked around-the-clock shifts to care for the wounded. Our nation came together to show that not even the worst acts of hate and violence could tear us apart.
“Today, I am thinking about those we lost, their families, the first responders no longer with us, and those who bear scars, physical or mental, from that day. And we are reminded that even on our darkest days, our country’s best qualities – strength, heroism, and resiliency – can still shine through.”
