Readout of Ambassador Katherine Tai’s virtual meeting with Mexican Secretary of Economy Tatiana Clouthier

WASHINGTON – United States Trade Representative Katherine Tai today met virtually with Mexican Secretary of Economy Tatiana Clouthier. 

Ambassador Tai and Secretary Clouthier discussed the importance of the U.S.-Mexico trade relationship and fully implementing the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA). They committed to future engagement on shared priorities, including economic recovery from the Covid-19 pandemic and full implementation of Mexico’s labor reform. Ambassador Tai also stressed the critical importance of cooperation on climate and environmental issues, as well as reform at the World Trade Organization and the mutual benefits of robust bi-lateral agricultural trade. Lastly, Ambassador Tai and Secretary Clouthier agreed to pursue a USMCA Free Trade Commission meeting with their Canadian counterpart in the near future.
