WASHINGTON - United States Trade Representative Katherine Tai met today with Germany’s State Secretary for International and EU Affairs and G7/G20 Sherpa, Jörg Kukies.
Ambassador Tai and State Secretary Kukies discussed a number of international trade issues, including how to work with developing countries to ensure equitable global growth and how to address nonmarket policies and practices from the People’s Republic of China (PRC). They also discussed the European Union’s efforts to impose countervailing tariffs on PRC-made battery electric vehicles and overcapacity in the steel and aluminum sectors. Ambassador Tai and State Secretary Kukies agreed on the importance of transatlantic cooperation to address global challenges, especially as it relates to combatting the climate crisis through decarbonization.
Ambassador Tai and State Secretary Kukies reiterated the importance of the U.S.-German relationship and the need for future close cooperation as our countries address common trade challenges.
