Statement from Ambassador Sarah Bianchi on Air India’s Purchase of Boeing Aircraft

February 14, 2023

WASHINGTON – Deputy United States Trade Representative Sarah Bianchi today released the following statement after President Biden announced that Air India agreed to a historic purchase of airplanes from Boeing.

“President Biden’s announcement of the historic purchase of over 200 American-made aircraft through an agreement between Air India and Boeing is the latest development in strengthening the relationship between the United States and India. Over the last two years, we have made great strides toward expanding the bilateral trade relationship between the U.S. and India, including through the U.S.-India Trade Policy Forum, to expand market access for American businesses, producers and our workers.

“Today’s announcement builds on India’s recent announcement to reduce tariffs on pecans, certain animal feed imports, and eliminate its duty on ethanol used for industrial purposes. Last year, the U.S. announced the that India agreed to allow imports of U.S. pork and pork products into India, removing a longstanding barrier to U.S. agricultural trade. USTR will continue working diligently to deepen the U.S. – India Trade Partnership.”
