Ambassador Tai will join Senator Dick Durbin to tour Chicago Women in Trades
WASHINGTON – United States Trade Representative Katherine Tai will travel to Chicago, Illinois on Friday, February 10. Following President Biden’s State of the Union Address on Tuesday night, Ambassador Tai will highlight the local impacts of the Biden-Harris Administration’s economic agenda, including the Bipartisan Infrastructure Plan, the CHIPS and Science Act, and the Inflation Reduction Act. Ambassador Tai will also share how these investments will lower costs for Illinois families and boost American competitiveness abroad.
In the morning, Ambassador Tai will visit and tour American Optical, a family-owned eyewear and sunglass company based in the suburbs of Chicago. It is the oldest optical company in the American history and manufactures its products in the United States. She will discuss how the Biden Administration's economic agenda supports businesses like American Optical.

Later, Ambassador Tai and Senator Dick Durbin will visit the Chicago Women in Trades and meet with a diverse cohort of women that are learning welding skills. Ambassador Tai will share how the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law is investing in workers and helping them acquire the skills to compete and succeed in today’s economy.
Following the tour, Ambassador Tai and Senator Durbin will participate in a short press gaggle.
