Statement by Ambassador Katherine Tai on Women’s History Month

March 01, 2022

This month is an opportunity to honor all of the accomplishments women have made to improve and advance our society. It is also a reminder to celebrate the women that have influenced our lives and pushed us to achieve our dreams.

Throughout my career, I have been supported and inspired by outstanding female leaders and colleagues. I am honored to follow in the footsteps of Carla Hills, Charlene Barshefsky, Susan Schwab, and generations of skilled and dedicated women who served at USTR and paved the way for others who dreamed of a career in trade policy. We all have a responsibility to lift up women professionally and personally, and I take great pride in mentoring emerging leaders, particularly Asian-American women.

Serving in this office – and in the Cabinet alongside our first female Vice President and so many dynamic women – is a testament to the perseverance and resilience of those who came before us. We must build on the momentum created by the Suffragists at Saratoga, the unsung heroes of the Civil Rights Movement, and the champions for equal pay to continue cultivating a path to success for the next generation of changemakers.
