Statement from Ambassador Katherine Tai on the Passage of the America COMPETES Act

February 04, 2022

The America COMPETES Act represents a major step forward in our efforts to restore a vital American industry and strengthen our competitiveness abroad. I congratulate Speaker Pelosi, Chairman Neal and the other Committee Chairs, and House Members for passing this bill.
The America COMPETES Act’s wide range of support – from the business community to labor – demonstrates broad-based agreement that we need to start taking significant steps to strengthen our supply chains and support our domestic industries and innovators.
Since Day One, President Biden has put American competitiveness at the forefront of his domestic and foreign policy agendas. With this bill and the historic investments provided by the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, the United States will be well-positioned to maintain its global competitive edge while strengthening our supply chains against future shocks.
I urge the Senate and the House of Representatives to come together and quickly pass a unified bill so that we can begin this important work.
