WASHINGTON – United States Trade Representative Katherine Tai and Deputy United States Trade Representative Jayme White today met virtually with France’s new Minister Delegate for Foreign Trade Olivier Becht.
Ambassador Tai and Ambassador White congratulated Minister Becht on his recent appointment. They also reaffirmed the United States’ desire to continue the close partnership with the French government on a range of important global trade issues, including in multilateral fora such as the WTO, G7, and G20.
Ambassador Tai thanked France for its leadership on transatlantic issues during its recent Presidency of the Council of the European Union and for hosting the May U.S.-EU Trade and Technology Council (TTC) Ministerial in France. Ambassador Tai and Minister Becht noted the important ongoing work in the TTC, including on the adverse impacts of non-market economic policies and practices on the U.S. and EU economies and increasing supply chain resiliency. They agreed that the TTC offers a constructive and productive framework for cooperation on shared priorities, and they both embraced the goal of achieving meaningful outcomes that benefit U.S. and French workers.
Ambassador Tai and Minister Becht agreed to stay in touch, and look forward to meeting one another in person in the near future.
