WASHINGTON – Deputy United States Trade Representative Jayme White today spoke with Mexico’s Under Secretary for Foreign Trade, Luz Maria de la Mora, to follow up on bilateral issues raised by Ambassador Tai during the second USMCA Free Trade Commission meeting in July.
Ambassador White and Under Secretary De la Mora reaffirmed their commitment to the bilateral economic and trade relationship, and the importance of their regular communication in continuing to implement the USMCA.
Ambassador White emphasized several priority areas, including efforts related to the prohibition on the importation of goods made with forced labor; the ongoing implementation of Mexico’s historic labor reform; the importance of a science- and risk-based regulatory approval process for agricultural biotechnology products; and stakeholder consultation in the development of new regulations.
Ambassador White and Under Secretary De la Mora also agreed to stay in regular communication in advance of the next meeting of Deputies under the USMCA, to be scheduled for later this year.
