Geneva, Switzerland – U.S. Trade Representative Ron Kirk will arrive in Geneva on Thursday, December 15, to participate in the 8th World Trade Organization (WTO) Ministerial Conference. At the ministerial event, which lasts through Saturday, December 17, Kirk and his fellow ministers from the 153 WTO Members will discuss the state of play in the Doha Round of world trade negotiations and consider the terms of accession to the WTO for countries including Russia, Samoa, and Montenegro. Ministers also hope to oversee the conclusion of a revision of the WTO Government Procurement Agreement, which would expand opportunities for U.S. goods and services providers in markets around the world. While in Geneva, Ambassador Kirk will also hold a series of bilateral meetings with U.S. partners and WTO Member groups.
Shortly after the meeting’s close on Saturday evening, Ambassador Kirk will hold a briefing for the assembled press at the International Conference Center Geneva, where the ministerial meeting is being held.
