OSAKA – United States Trade Representative Katherine Tai today met with European Commission Executive Vice President, Valdis Dombrovskis, ahead of the G7 Trade Ministers’ Meeting.
Ambassador Tai and Executive Vice President Dombrovskis agreed on the importance of the upcoming 13th WTO Ministerial Conference. Ambassador Tai reiterated her hope that WTO Members can work together over the next four months to accomplish key priorities that will facilitate a successful ministerial conference. She noted the United States’ desire to play a productive role in reform conversations at the WTO and during MC13.
Ambassador Tai and Executive Vice President Dombrovskis also discussed the negotiations on the global arrangement on sustainable steel and aluminum. Ambassador Tai thanked the U.S. and EU teams for their hard work in the last week and reiterated that the United States remains committed to this ambitious endeavor. Ambassador Tai and Executive Vice President Dombrovskis discussed the next steps for the negotiations in the coming weeks.
