USTR Names Sam Michel as Assistant U.S. Trade Representative for Media and Public Affairs

WASHINGTON – The Office of the United States Trade Representative today announced the appointment of Sam Michel as Assistant U.S. Trade Representative for Media and Public Affairs.

“I am pleased to announce Sam Michel as the new Assistant U.S. Trade Representative for Media and Public Affairs,” said Ambassador Katherine Tai. “For over two years, Sam has been a tremendous asset here at USTR. His experience and leadership will be instrumental as we continue to implement President Biden’s vision for a more inclusive, worker-centered trade policy.”
 

Sam Michel, Assistant U.S. Trade Representative for Media and Public Affairs

Sam Michel has served at the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative in multiple roles, most recently as the Acting Assistant U.S. Trade Representative for Media and Public Affairs, Deputy Assistant U.S. Trade Representative for Media and Public Affairs, and Director of Speechwriting.

Prior to joining USTR, Sam was the Minnesota Press Secretary on the Biden campaign. He also worked for SKDKnickerbocker as a member of its Public Affairs and Executive Communications teams, where he wrote for political candidates, C-suite leaders, and philanthropists. Earlier in his career, he worked for Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and GMMB. He received his BA in International Affairs from George Washington University with a dual concentration in International Politics and International Economics.
