SAN FRANCISCO – United States Trade Representative Katherine Tai today met with Peru’s Minister of Trade and Tourism, Juan Carlos Mathews, on the margins of the APEC Ministerial Meeting (AMM).
Ambassador Tai and Minister Mathews discussed the AMM agenda and the United States’ priorities during its APEC host year. Ambassador Tai thanked Minister Mathews for Peru’s participation in the first-ever Ministerial-level dialogue between Indigenous and Tribal leaders and APEC Ministers earlier today. She noted that this was an important opportunity to show APEC economies’ support for inclusive trade policies that benefit all people. Ambassador Tai emphasized that the United States looks forward to working with Peru toward a successful APEC host year in 2024.
Ambassador Tai and Minister Mathews also discussed the U.S.-Peru Free Trade Agreement (PTPA), which will mark its 15-year entry-into-force anniversary next year. Ambassador Tai and Minister Mathews agreed to convene a meeting of the PTPA Free Trade Commission in Peru in 2024 to commemorate this anniversary and identify additional bilateral trade priorities.
