WASHINGTON – United States Trade Representative Katherine Tai today met with European Commission Executive Vice President Valdis Dombrovskis to discuss opportunities to strengthen the U.S. – EU trade and economic relationship.
Ambassador Tai and Executive Vice President Dombrovskis highlighted the important role of the Trade and Technology Council (TTC) and expressed their shared commitment to reaching concrete outcomes at the third TTC meeting later this year. Ambassador Tai also touted the successful first meeting of the Trade and Labor Dialogue last month, during which of U.S. and EU government, labor, and business representatives, discussed concerns related to the future of work and the impacts of the digital economy on workers, as well as advancing cooperation to benefit workers in the global economy.
Ambassador Tai and Executive Vice President Dombrovskis exchanged views on the electric vehicle provisions of the Inflation Reduction Act of 2022 and asked their teams to increase engagement on the issue. Ambassador Tai shared her view that seriously combating the climate crisis will require increased investments in clean energy technologies, as well as addressing supply chain and security vulnerabilities.
Lastly, Ambassador Tai and Executive Vice President Dombrovskis agreed to increase the pace of discussions about the global steel arrangement and they agreed to stay in close contact on these, and other topics, in the weeks ahead.
