Statement from Ambassador Katherine Tai on Human Rights Day

December 10, 2021

WASHINGTON – United States Trade Representative Katherine Tai today released the following statement to commemorate Human Rights Day.

“On this day 73 years ago, the United Nations General Assembly adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. We have made significant progress in the fight for freedom, justice, and peace since then but there is still so much more for us to accomplish.

“Human rights violations continue worldwide, including 25 million people subjected to forced labor. From protecting the rights to free association and collective bargaining to eliminating forced labor and child labor, we believe trade can be an important tool that protects people and the dignity of their work. As we commemorate this day, we pledge to continue making trade a force for good and a catalyst for improving the respect for human rights worldwide.”
