WASHINGTON – United States Trade Representative Katherine Tai today met virtually with Moderna CEO Stéphane Bancel to discuss increasing vaccine production, global health issues and the proposed waiver to certain provisions of the World Trade Organization’s (WTO’s) Agreement on Trade-Related Aspects of Intellectual Property Rights (TRIPS) for the COVID-19 pandemic.
Ambassador Tai affirmed that the Biden-Harris Administration’s top priority is saving lives and ending the pandemic, and asked for Mr. Bancel’s views on the best way to accelerate global COVID-19 vaccine production and distribution, as well as vaccines for other diseases. The Ambassador emphasized her commitment to working on a coordinated global response to the COVID-19 pandemic. The Ambassador and Mr. Bancel agreed to stay in communication.
