Statement by United States Trade Representative Michael Froman on the “Made In Rural America” Export and Investment Initiative

February 07, 2014

Washington, DC – Today, U.S. Trade Representative Michael Froman issued the following statement following President Obama’s announcement of the “Made in Rural America” export and investment initiative, which will bring together federal resources to help rural businesses and leaders reach new customers and markets around the world.

“At USTR, we look forward to working on the President’s initiative to help businesses in rural America export more. USTR works to open key global markets by negotiating new trade agreements, such as the Trans-Pacific Partnership, and agreements with bilateral partners. In addition, we work every day at the WTO and directly with other countries to eliminate unwarranted non-tariff barriers to wholesome and safe American food and agricultural products.

“Last year was another record year for exports of American food and agricultural products reaching $148.4 billion. We are proud of the work we do every day to promote ‘Made in Rural America’, expanding markets for America’s food and agricultural goods.”
