WASHINGTON – United States Trade Representative Katherine Tai today met South Africa’s Minister of Trade, Industry, and Competition Ebrahim Patel, as well as other senior members of the delegation, including Minister in the Presidency, Khumbudzo Ntshavheni, and Minister of Finance, Enoch Godongwana.
The discussion focused on the importance of the U.S.-South African trade relationship and ways to increase economic engagement moving forward. The ministers also discussed the African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA) program and African regional integration.
Following the meeting, Ambassador Tai and the South African delegation met with senior business and civil society leaders from South Africa. The group discussed opportunities to champion workers in both countries, as well as promote inclusive economic growth.
