WASHINGTON – United States Trade Representative Katherine Tai today met virtually with Mexico’s Secretary of Economy, Raquel Buenrostro. Ambassador Tai congratulated Secretary Buenrostro on her recent appointment, and highlighted the importance of the U.S.-Mexico economic relationship and the continued implementation of the USMCA.
Additionally, Ambassador Tai underlined the importance of making expeditious progress in addressing the issues in Mexico’s energy sector that the United States identified in its July 20, 2022 consultations request under the USMCA, and the importance of avoiding a disruption in U.S. corn exports and returning to a science- and risk-based regulatory approval process for all agricultural biotechnology products in Mexico.
Ambassador Tai and Secretary Buenrostro agreed to stay in regular communication on these issues.
