WASHINGTON – Deputy United States Trade Representative Jayme White today met with Mexico’s Under Secretary of Economy for Foreign Trade Alejandro Encinas. Ambassador White and Under Secretary Encinas began by emphasizing their shared commitment to strengthening the U.S.-Mexico economic relationship.
Ambassador White underscored the importance of the full implementation of the USMCA’s prohibition on the importation of goods produced with forced labor. Ambassador White also expressed concerns about restrictions facing U.S. electronic payments services suppliers in the Mexican market; reiterated deep U.S. concerns regarding Mexico’s biotech policies, including potential disruptions to U.S. corn exports; and stressed the importance of making progress in the ongoing consultations under the USMCA regarding Mexico’s energy measures and Mexico’s enforcement of its fisheries-related environmental laws.
