Readout of U.S. Trade Representative Michael Froman’s Meeting with Mexico’s Secretary of Economy Ildefonso Guajardo

Mexico City, Mexico – U.S. Trade Representative Michael Froman met this week with Mexican Secretary of Economy Ildefonso Guajardo on the margins of the first meeting of the U.S.-Mexico High Level Economic Dialogue (HLED) in Mexico City. Their meeting focused on next steps necessary to bring the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) negotiations to a successful conclusion. They both reiterated their commitment to achieving a high-standard, comprehensive agreement this year, which is the goal agreed to by President Obama, President Pena Nieto and other TPP Leaders. They also discussed issues related to the U.S.-Mexico bilateral trade relationship, and agreed to continue working together.

Ambassador Froman was in Mexico City today as part of a U.S. Delegation, led by Vice President Joe Biden, to co-chair the first meeting of the HLED.
