November 27, 2001

WASHINGTON - The Office of the United States Trade Representative announced the ninth round of trade talks with Chile will open today in Miami, Florida. The meetings will be held at the University of Miami and are being hosted by the Florida FTAA (Free Trade Area of the Americas) Organization. This round of negotiations for a bilateral free trade agreement will conclude on December 4 after an extended schedule of negotiations where we expect to continue to make significant progress towards a final agreement. Another round of meetings will be scheduled for some time in January. There will be a press conference at the end of the negotiations to review the progress of this round.
