LIMA – United States Trade Representative Katherine Tai participated in the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Ministerial Meeting from November 13-14, 2024 in Lima, Peru. On the margins of the meeting, Ambassador Tai met with Taiwan Minister-without-Portfolio Jen-ni Yang; Canada’s Minister of Export Promotion, International Trade, and Economic Development Mary Ng; and Thailand’s Minister of Commerce Pichai Naripthaphan.
On November 13, Ambassador Tai met with Minister Jen-ni Yang of Taiwan. Ambassador Tai highlighted the importance of the economic and trade relationship between the United States and Taiwan. Ambassador Tai and Minister Yang discussed the important progress that has been made by the United States and Taiwan, under the auspices of the American Institute in Taiwan and the Taipei Economic and Cultural Representative Office in the United States, through the United States-Taiwan Initiative on 21st-Century Trade. Ambassador Tai and Minister Yang also discussed their work together in the APEC forum and in other multilateral organizations, including the World Trade Organization.
On November 14, Ambassador Tai met with Canada’s Minister of Export Promotion, International Trade, and Economic Development, Mary Ng. Ambassador Tai and Minister Ng highlighted the importance of the U.S.-Canadian relationship and reiterated their shared commitment to enhancing North American competitiveness and resilience, including through cooperating to strengthen our economic security and address non-market policies and practices of other countries.
In addition, Ambassador Tai met with Minister Pichai Naripthaphan of Thailand. Ambassador Tai conveyed appreciation for ongoing economic cooperation with Thailand across multilateral and regional fora. Ambassador Tai further highlighted bilateral cooperation under the U.S.-Thailand Trade and Investment Framework Agreement, including on labor and intellectual property.
