WASHINGTON – United States Trade Representative Katherine Tai today met with Ukraine’s First Deputy Prime Minister-Minister of Economy, Yulia Svyrydenko.
The United States continues to condemn Russia’s unprovoked and unjustified invasion of Ukraine, and has supported Ukraine by enhancing our trade and investment ties. The meeting focused on ways to help lay the foundation for a sustainable economic recovery and reconstruction.
In November 2022, during the eleventh meeting of the United States – Ukraine Trade and Investment Council, Ambassador Tai and First Deputy Prime Minister Svyrydenko announced the launch of negotiations to upgrade the 2008 Trade and Investment Cooperation Agreement (TICA) to support Ukraine’s efforts to establish a more transparent and predictable business environment.
Today, Ambassador Tai and First Deputy Prime Minister Svyrydenko discussed progress on this effort. They expressed their shared desire to sign a Protocol to the TICA to include annexes on anti-corruption and good regulatory practices in the near future.
Ambassador Tai and First Deputy Prime Minister Svyrydenko agreed to stay in touch and instructed their respective teams to continue this work in the weeks ahead.
