Office of the United States Trade Representative on Black History Month

February 02, 2021

Washington, DC – The Office of the United States Trade Representative today issued the following statement celebrating Black History Month:

“Black History Month is a time to honor the heroes who sacrificed in service of equality and equal opportunity for African Americans.  As we reflect on these remarkable contributions, we must also recommit to eliminating the systemic barriers that have blocked generations of Black Americans from fully participating in our society.

“The Biden-Harris Administration is committed to building back a better economy that advances racial justice and equity, beginning with an inclusive pandemic recovery. At USTR, that starts with a more holistic focus on the American worker, and actively recruiting public servants who look like America, ensuring that historically overlooked minority communities fully participate in the drive to increase American competitiveness. This renewed focus on equity will grow our economy, create jobs for all Americans and help our country thrive.”
