President Obama’s Chief Trade Advisor Seeks to Strengthen Bilateral Ties, Advance Trans-Pacific Partnership and Regional Economic Integration
Washington, D.C. – United States Trade Representative Ron Kirk will visit Vietnam on Sunday, September 2 and Monday, September 3 for meetings with senior Vietnamese government officials.
Ambassador Kirk’s trip will present opportunities to strengthen the robust and dynamic bilateral economic relationship between the United States and Vietnam. Since the United States and Vietnam re-established diplomatic ties just 17 years ago, two-way trade between the two countries has grown from less than $1 million to almost $22 billion last year. The United States is Vietnam’s largest export market and one of the largest investors in Vietnam.
Ambassador Kirk also looks forward to discussing with Vietnamese officials their joint goal of concluding the Trans-Pacific Partnership, ways to work together to advance their common objectives in Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC), and initiatives to support the integration efforts of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).
During his trip, Ambassador Kirk will also meet separately with business leaders from the United States and Vietnam to discuss trade and investment issues.
