May 14, 2020

Washington, DC – United States Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer issued the following statement today:

"I want to thank Director General Azevêdo for his exemplary service during his more than six-year tenure.  Despite the many shortcomings of the WTO, Roberto has led the institution with grace and a steady hand. He will be difficult to replace.  I wish him the best in his future endeavors.  In the coming months, the United States looks forward to participating in the process of selecting a new Director General."
