USTR Kirk Welcomes Senate Confirmation of Miriam Sapiro

December 24, 2009

United States Trade Representative Ron Kirk today welcomed Senate confirmation of Miriam Sapiro as Deputy United States Trade Representative for the nation's lead agency on trade. Two other key USTR personnel, Michael Punke as U.S. Ambassador to the World Trade Organization, and Isi Siddiqui as Chief Agricultural Negotiator, received unanimous passage by the Senate Finance Committee earlier this week and await full Senate confirmation.

Ambassador Kirk issued the following statement:

"Miriam Sapiro brings years of valuable expertise and experience and will be a stellar addition to the USTR leadership team," said USTR Ron Kirk. "We also look forward to the timely confirmation of Michael Punke and Isi Siddiqui. From our daily efforts to open markets around the world to American products, to our work to get a good deal in the Doha Round of trade negotiations, the service that these new USTR leaders will provide in their key positions will pay great dividends to American workers, farmers, ranchers, manufacturers, and service providers."
