The Market Access section negotiates the reduction of tariffs and non-tariff barriers on industrial and consumer goods in free trade agreements. These agreements have opened up new markets and reduced tariffs for U.S. manufacturers. Examples include the Australia FTA where more than 99 percent of U.S. manufactured exports became duty-free on January 1, 2005, and the Bahrain FTA, where 100 percent of bilateral trade in consumer and industrial products will become duty-free upon entry into force of the Agreement.
