The Office of the United States Trade Representative

CAFTA Advisory Group Reports
On March 22, 2004, the Office of the United States Trade Representative transmitted to the President and the Congress reports from 32 trade advisory committees, comprising more than 750 practitioners representing diverse interests and views, regarding the recently completed U.S.- Central America Free Trade Agreement (CAFTA), covering Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua. The Trade Act of 2002 requires these committees to prepare reports on proposed trade agreements for the Administration and Congress. Support for the agreement was widespread among nearly all the committees, with several senior-level committees noting that the agreement goes beyond the Chile and Singapore FTAs in important respects.
