Washington, DC –
United States Trade Representative Susan C. Schwab announced today that Sean
Spicer will serve as Assistant U.S. Trade Representative for Public and Media
Affairs beginning June 26.
In that position, Spicer will direct media communications on USTR activities
in opening markets and enforcing trade rules.
"Sean brings to USTR solid experience in handling communications on a wide
variety of issues in a fast-paced environment. That is exactly what is needed as
we move ahead on our ambitious, growth-oriented trade agenda," said Schwab. "I
am delighted Sean will be joining the dedicated professionals at USTR."
Since May 2005, Spicer has served as the communications director for the
House Republican Conference.
Prior to joining the Conference, he served as the Communications Director for
the House Budget Committee for two and half years. He was the Director of
Incumbent Retention for the National Republican Congressional Committee during
the 2000-2002 election cycle and is a veteran of several congressional
campaigns. Additionally, he has been the Communicators Director for the House
Government Reform Committee.
Mr. Spicer is a Lieutenant in the U.S. Navy (Reserves) and is currently
attached to the Joint Public Affairs Support Element at U.S. Joint Forces
Command in Suffolk, VA.
He received his B.A. from Connecticut College in New London, CT and resides
in Alexandria, Virginia.
