Office of the United States Trade Representative

Statement of Susan C. Schwab, United States Trade Representative
06/08/2006

"I am honored that the Senate has confirmed me as the 15th United States Trade Representative. In particular, I want to thank Senators Frist, Grassley and Baucus, and other Members of the Senate Finance Committee.

"Trade is one of President Bush’s top priorities. He has championed a compelling vision that will increase trade flows, create new economic opportunities for all countries, alleviate poverty in the developing world and promote democratic reform.

"Under the leadership of former U.S. Trade Representatives Bob Zoellick and Rob Portman, and with the hard work and dedication of the talented USTR staff, the United States has led the effort to open new markets for American products and services and rigorously enforce the rules of trade. I am eager to move ahead with our bilateral and multilateral efforts to realize the president’s vision for free and fair trade.

"And I look forward to working closely with members of the House and Senate to advance the interests of American farmers, workers, businesses and service providers as we advance America’s pro-trade agenda."
