Readout of Ambassador Katherine Tai's Meeting with Korea’s Minister for Trade Ahn Dukgeun

WASHINGTON – United States Trade Representative Katherine Tai met today with Korea’s Minister for Trade Ahn Dukgeun.  Ambassador Tai welcomed Korea’s close cooperation on the Indo-Pacific Economic Framework and discussed the upcoming Indo-Pacific Economic Framework Ministerial in Los Angeles. 
 
The Ministers also discussed a broad range of trade issues with the goal of forging a stronger partnership in areas of common interest, including with respect to challenges related to supply chains, efforts to support environmental protection, and ways to strengthen our cooperation in regional and multilateral fora including APEC and the G-20.  Ambassador Tai also noted her desire for close cooperation with Korea on supporting internationally-recognized worker rights.
 
Ambassador Tai listened closely to the ROK’s concerns about the electric vehicle (EV) provisions of the Inflation Reduction Act of 2022 and the two committed to open an engagement channel on these issues.  They also highlighted the importance of meaningful action on clean energy technologies to combat the climate crisis while addressing supply chain and security vulnerabilities.
