Readout of Ambassador Katherine Tai's Virtual Meeting with Ireland's Tánaiste Leo Varadkar, Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment

WASHINGTON – United States Trade Representative Katherine Tai today met virtually with Ireland’s Tánaiste Leo Varadkar, Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment. Ambassador Tai and Tánaiste Varadkar discussed the importance of the trans-Atlantic trade relationship and agreed to partner on addressing unfair trade practices of non-market economies, such as China, including with respect to excess production capacity for steel and aluminum. They also discussed the need to move quickly to resolve the large civic aircraft subsidies dispute and the importance of the successful conclusion of the OECD negotiations on global corporate tax reform. Ambassador Tai reiterated the Biden-Harris Administration’s support for maintaining the integrity of the Good Friday Agreement. The two agreed to regular communication on these and other critical issues.
