Geneva, Switzerland – U.S. Trade Representative Ron Kirk has welcomed today’s decisions of Ministers at the 8th WTO Ministerial Conference formally inviting Montenegro and Samoa to join the World Trade Organization (WTO).
“The United States will be pleased to work with Samoa and Montenegro as full partners in the WTO," said Ambassador Kirk. "Approval of these accession packages, along with yesterday's invitation to Russia and action this year on Vanuatu, testifies to the ability of the WTO to continually renew itself by incorporating new Members of widely varying sizes and levels of economic development.”
Ambassador Kirk also noted that the United States looks forward to participating constructively in the work program on least developed country (LDC) accessions to be approved by the Ministerial Conference.
